Perception Software’s
focus is to help reduce the time, cost, and risk of electronic
design by providing unique functionality at the intersection
of existing EDA and PLM applications.
This intersection offers a host of unaddressed problems and
manual, error prone procedures that Perception’s products
address. The investment required to successfully install and
deploy a PLM system can reach 10’s of millions of dollars
and take years. For a company that designs or manufactures
products with high electronic content, the ultimate success
and ROI of a large PLM application investment can depend, quite
simply, on how the electronic design community views its participation
in the PLM process. Of course, there are examples of top-down
directives that force compliance, but history has shown that
the most successful PLM implementations are those that allow
the engineering community to remain in their native design
application space, while performing all of the tasks required
by the PLM workflow process with as little disruption as possible.
To date, those implementations have been mostly done with custom
application programming, and are scoped and delivered to solve
a finite set of EDA/PLM integration issues – a
point in time solution. Perception’s approach is to build
a standard product set (EDAConnect) that addresses these issues,
and can deal with all major PLM vendors and all major EDA clients
with a single application. Customers are thenprotected when
migrating from one version of PLM to another, migrating from
one version of EDA tool to another, or switching vendors entirely,
something that is impossible to provide with custom, point-in-time
solutions.
